Our logging company, Smith Brothers Timber Co., Inc. is located just across the state line in Choctaw County, Alabama. B. K. Smith, and his brother, Harmon Smith, started the business in the late 1940's. When B. K. died unexpectedly in 1968, his two oldest sons (Waurice and Rickie) joined the business. They bought out their uncle's part of the business in the early 1970's. Younger brother, Randy, joined the business in the late 1970's. Together they have built the company to one of the most respected logging operations in the area. Smith Brothers Timber Co. purchases tracts of pine and hardwood timber from many counties in Southeast Mississippi and Southwest Alabama. The hardwood logs from these tracts go to their sawmill in Buckatunna, Mississippi. The logging crew is fully mechanized with two Tigercat skidders, a Prentice knuckleboom loader, a Hydro-Ax cutter, a Case bulldozer, and three Mack trucks. A love of the outdoors and respect for the environment are key factors in the way timber harvesting is done.
